NaPoWriMo Day #17

Today's prompt: "Today, we’d like to challenge you to write a poem that is inspired by a piece of music, and that shares its title with that piece of music."

Today's poem was loosely inspired by Funeral For a Friend's song "Streetcar."

Streetcar

Our lives connected

as streetcars on parallel tracks.

Through some freak of engineering,

our lives rumbled by each other close enough

I could reach out the window and grab your hand across the gap:

Warm as a coal,

A glowing star.

I still don’t know which of us let go first.

Either way,

hands could not defy engines.

The streetcars rumbled mercilessly on,

carrying us away through the city that now felt so cold.
